A Winter's Week (Again?) in Masai Mara
  27.Jul.2021

In another year dominated by navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and restricted travelling, I was happy to head out for ten days to Kenia for the great migration to cross Sand and Mara rivers from Botswana's Serengeti into Kenia's Masai Mara. While it was super chilly for the entire period, we did see the season's first crossings over both rivers. All of the thousands of Wildebeest and Zebra made it safely over to the other sides, it seemed too cold for the massive Mara crocodiles to hunt. What an incredible, emotional sight with mother Wildebeests leading her five months old offsprings into and through the dangerous waters. Also, had quite a bit of unusual encounters of Leopards and Serval cats. A great trip with Mara Bushcamp https://www.lets-go-africa.com/kenia/lodges-und-camps/masai-mara/mara-bush-camp.html.

A Winter's Week in Bandhavgarh
11.Feb.2020

Just returned from cold Bandhavgarh national park, land of the tigers in central India Madhya Pradesh. Did you know that Rudyard Kipling's Junglebook was inspired by neighbouring Kanha tiger reserve? Sure enough we had several sightings of Sherekhan and his relatives. Most enjoyable was the time spent with the full grown brothers and cubs of female tiger 'Dotty'. It is amazing to see the numbers of tigers growing again, with most of the females currently taking care of three or four cubs. Yet, territories in the park are taken and the many young tigers will need to find places elsewhere. Also good to see the Tala villagers engaged and caring for the park and its wildlife, many of them working as drivers, guides or rangers. NatureSafariIndia perfectly organized all my travels, highly recommended: www.naturesafariindia.com.

Grand Tour Around Okawango
07. Sep. 2019

The #KALAHARISANDS journey continues, this time primarily through Botswana and Zimbabwe: With great friends we drove from Windhoek to Maun, into the Moremi reserve of Okavango delta, to Savute and Chobe river front, to Victoria falls and back through the Caprivi strip and Rundu to Windhoek. Next to the enormous number of elephants, the pristine landscapes on the borders of Kwai, Okawango, Zambezi and Chobe rivers, a highlight was spending a couple of hours at a den of painted dogs. Painted wild dogs are the second most endangered carnivore species in Africa threatened by Rabies, habitat fragmentation and poaching and need immediate and intense conservation efforts to prevent extinction. Images will follow over the next weeks.

KOMODO - Currents, Rays & Dragons
27.December.2016
I just spent fabulous days diving the east of Sumbawa and Komodo National Park of Indonesia, with its wild currents flowing back and forth between the Pacific and the Indian ocean. The reefs continue to shine in wonderful colours of abundant fish and coral and the Wallace line continues to protect the king predateur of this little archipelago of desert islands -  the Komodo lizard. Images are coming soon.
